Personal History

Beginning in Judo
Paulo Augusto was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1970. When he was only five years old Paulo saw a judo class at the YMCA and asked his mom to sign him up. Soon Paulo’s older brother, Carlos, and sister, Valeria, were practicing Judo as well. Paulo, the youngest of the three, loved going to judo classes and has never stopped.

Training with Yamasaki
As his judo talents became apparent, Paulo was fortunate to have the privilege of training under the world famous Shigueto Yamasaki. Yamasaki is a true judo Master and International Referee, credited with developing many National and International judo champions including Paulo Augusto. Mr. Yamasaki was a Riuzo Ogawa student (The founder of Judo in Brazil in 1934) and has refereed numerous judo tournaments, 6 world Judo championships and 4 Olympic Games.

Success in Judo
By the age of 17, Paulo had already won an impressive amount of local, State, National and International judo tournaments. These accomplishments were recognized by the Paulista Judo Federation in 1988 when Paulo was awarded his black belt in Judo. The higher degrees quickly followed with his 2nd degree in 1992, his 3rd degree in 1998 and his 4th degree from USJF (The most respected USA Judo Federation) in 2004. In 2003 Paulo won two gold medals in the Pan American Masters Judo Championship (Arizona, USA).

Jiu-Jitsu Becomes New Passion
In 1986 Master Yamasaki’s nephew, Fernando Yamasaki, introduced Paulo to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to further advance his judo skills. It was no surprise when Paulo immediately showed talent in this sport as well. He began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Otavio de Almeida Jr. (current President of the Federacao Paulista De Jiu-Jitsu). Mr. Almeida Jr. is the son of Otavio de Almeida Sr. (One of the pioneer BJJ teachers in Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Success in Jiu-Jitsu
Paulo’s love for the “Gentle art” led to quick success. He received his first-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1991 from Masters Otavio de Almeida Jr. and Roberto Moreira Lage. The second degree followed in 1998, 3rd degree in 2002 and his 4th degree black belt from Carlson Gracie Senior November, 2005. Mr. Augusto, won several local, State and National Tournaments as well. From 1986 to 1997 Paulo was BJJ Sao Paulo State champion for 6 years, successfully competed in the prestigious 2nd and 4th Pan American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments and, 1997 world Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

Success in Education and Business

Augusto’s prestigious training from respected masters and dedication to the sport of judo has allowed him to achieve great success in the sport as well as in life. Paulo received a judo scholarship to the prestigious Paulista University in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he earned a degree in International business. That was only the beginning of his achievements. In August of 1997, he decided to come to United States to learn English. Paulo mastered the English language after three months of intensive dedication in his classes and returned his focus to his business career. In 2001, after three months of studying 12 to 16 hours a day, Paulo passed one of the hardest state and National exams (The Series 7, Series 66 and Life Insurance Exams) and became a financial advisor with UBS Paine Webber. He then received an offer to work for Bank of America Investments. In 2004 Paulo passed the exam to become a Real Estate Broker.

Love of Teaching

Master Yamasaki and Master Otavio de Almeida not only taught his premier students to master the art of Judo/Jiu-Jitsu but also the skills required to teach. While attending ESL school, Paulo practiced Judo and Jiu-jitsu in local schools in San Diego County. He was quickly recognized as an outstanding talent and was invited to teach classes. The birth of Paulo’s son, Thomas Augusto in April of 2004, reminded Paulo of the importance of passing his knowledge and skills down to future generations. Paulo gave up his prestigious financial career in order to open the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo school in San Diego County and do what he loves the most: teaching Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I am looking to trade computer web development/Internet related work in exchange for rent.

Why am I looking to do this instead of paying rent outright?

Because I don't want to take the time to find additional clients to offer my web development services to in the San Diego area and to build relationships with them.

You see my mother's health is fading and I want to move to where she is in South America to be with her. In order to move down there as quickly as possible I must focus all my time and energy on making a living over the internet. It is far easier, much faster, and better all around if I simply exchange my skills for rent at my usual rate of $25 an hour and continue to focus mainly on getting my internet businesses off the ground. Instead of taking the time to make more money by focusing on continuing to build my web development business.

I need a business that will enable me to make a living in South America easily. Web development is great but not something I will be able to offer as readily where my mom is.

Here is what I offer you and bring to a potential exchange:

• I can set you up to make a living over the Internet by setting up web sites that will give you monthly income through Pay-per-Click advertising such as with Google Adsense. It's a great way to make additional income for retirement without being dependent on Social Security alone (it is NOT easy and involves a lot of work...mostly writing but, it can be done if you don't mind working to achieve internet success).
• I can help you achieve a high ranking in Google or as high as can be achieved (depending on your web site) using basic to advanced SEO principals and keyword targetting. This spells more money in your pocket through an increase in targeted and interested search engine trafic to your web site.
• I can create simple web sites allowing you to establish a web site presence for yourself or your business (no Flash, JavaScript, or other fancy stuff that is completely unnecessary for good web site ranking on Google). Includes working with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) either on a hosted server or setting it up locally for testing purposes on your local computer.

In short I am a PHP computer programmer and web developer offering you such services in exchange for rent (must include all utilities).

In these hard economic times it is a great thing to be able to leverage an Internet business to allow one to make a living from anywhere in the world without being tied to a local economy or the hiring whims of a corporation. • A quiet place with an always on internet connection (either wireless or Ethernet is fine).
• No party houses.
• No screaming kids running around everywhere or watching loud video games late into the night.
• Access to the kitchen around your schedule of eating and a shelf in the fridge for my food.
• A bathroom (shared or not makes no difference) to take a shower and use.
• Access to my bedroom at all hours with my own entrance key to the house (not that I will be out at all hours but I don't want to have to wake anyone up to let me in after a late night trip to the convenience store).
• All utilities (water, electricity, heat) in addition to an always on internet connection (either wireless or Ethernet is fine) must be included at no additional out-of-pocket cost to me.

I will consider alternative living arrangements such as staying in a trailer if you have such a thing available as long as my essential needs for housing and internet access are met.

I cannot stress enough that I am looking for a quiet place. A back bedroom where I can be left completely alone outside times we meet where I will help you with your computer needs would be ideal.

I will literally (I kid you not) be in front of my computer almost all day and into the night. Every day. Seven days a week (with an occasional time out with friends). I want to make enough as quickly as I can to enable me to move to South America where I won't be dependent on the local economy down there (which is not that great). That involves making a living over the internet. I even watch TV over the internet when I want to take a break.

I am involved in building two internet businesses. One is an Adsense empire of web sites which God willing I hope to make most of my money from. The other is a software application accessible over the Internet that will allow one's to make their own simple web sites (much simpler than using something like WordPress).

Some personal info:

• I am 51 years old and separated (though not officially or legally) from my wife who lives in Canada.
• I am a committed Christian (don't worry I am not a Bible thumper nor will I beat you over the head with bible verses). I say that to let you know that I cannot in good conscience work on adult oriented or other web sites that would be contrary to godliness and God's standard of righteousness.
• I have no car (don't want the added expense and don't really need one. It would be a waste for me to buy one only to turn around and sell it again on moving to South America).
• I don't do drugs nor do I drink (other than the extremely rare glass of wine).
• I don't have sex outside of marriage so I won't be bringing female companions to stay overnight with me.
• I am a U.S. citizen (I can show you my passport if you like) and am about as American as apple pie though I was born in South America.

Additional:

• I MUST be near a bus line so that I can go places when and if I need to.
• I MUST be within walking distance of a food store.
• I MUST be within walking distance of a laundromat if I cannot use your laundry machines (or such that you do not want me to use yours).

I expect to need about 6 months more before my internet ventures give me enough to make the move to South America though any arrangement we might make is open ended and able to be terminated by either one of us for any reason or no reason with nothing more than 7 days notice either way. You Hold the Key to Helping an Older Adult!

Rides & Smiles is a volunteer program of Jewish Family Service of San Diego. With this valuable program, volunteer drivers provide individual transportation to older adults- to medical and personal appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles and can decide who, when, and where you drive. Mileage reimbursement is available!

There are three service areas and volunteers are needed in all three areas:
*College Area/Del Cerro/San Carlos
*University City/La Jolla/Clairemont
*Rancho Bernardo/Poway

Volunteers must attend training and orientation, provide current copy of driver's license and proof of insurance, and get fingerprinted.
